What are the qualifications needed?

In Australia, childcare workers require a certificate before being employed. The minimum certificate is Certificate III in Early Childhood and Care. If you want to broaden your horizon and take on a role of manager or coordinator, you need a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care. You have to understand that the employers need strict background checks for any criminal record. It is an advantage if you know first aid. When you are hired, you need to register with the Department of Human Services.  

What are the available courses?

As mentioned earlier, the minimum course that you need to become a childcare worker is Certificate III of Early Childhood Education and Care. The duration of the course is 45 weeks. Check nearby colleges for this course. As for the Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, the average duration of this course is 18 months.
